Dayco National Finals

Well April 11th and 12th marked the end of a successful race season for the KSR team. Racing  the Dayco National Finals at Horseshoe Resort, warm temperatures and bright sunshine set a relaxed tone on the track for the girls.  Point races went on the back-burner and the girls went out with the goal of having fun and enjoying the last weekend on their sleds.  Having said that, the sun wasn’t the only thing hot.  The girls stuck to their competitive natures and brought some heat of their own.

Zoe had great heats both days with top 2 finishes, but, unfortunately her sled just did not like the wet, loose snow conditions found in the afternoon finals.  Much to her dismay, she found herself stuck on the hills relying on the flag men to help her conquer the slope.  Never- the-less; she had a great time and is constantly telling her dad to make her sled faster.  Perhaps she will be better suited for Stock 2 next year.

Dakota has consistently brought out her best the last half of the season and this weekend was no exception.  She earned top 3 in all heats and was over the moon with her first ever 1st place finish in the Stock 2 final on Saturday. A31Q5490 (1) On Sunday she rode hard but unfortunately her sled just wouldn’t press above 16 mph on the loose track conditions.  She ended up with a solid 5th place position in the final.

Brooklyn had her best weekend all season at Horseshoe. With nothing to lose, she went out with a clear mind and a smile on her face.  Horseshoe is always her favorite track and this year was no exception.  She pinned the throttle on both her Freestyle and her Phantom 250cc the entire time and caught some air.  She rode smooth with no incidents.  Frustratingly, her 250cc just didn’t want to push the course as hard as she wanted to, so Dad found himself spending a good portion of Saturday night in the trailer swapping parts between her two Phantoms.  Well, thanks Dad. It paid off!  Brooklyn achieved her first  1st overall Novice 250cc result this season with clean, fair races on Sunday.  She was absolutely thrilled with the result and is ecstatic to pick up her 1st place plaque at the awards ceremony next month.

With Horseshoe being the final race, points were tallied and KSR has delivered.  Brooklyn will bring home a 3rd overall in Novice 250, 2nd overall in Novice girls and lastly, a 6th in Novice A.  The 120’s have also been a success.  Dakota will acquire a 3rd place trophy in Stock 2 and Zoe will bring home a 4th overall in Stock 1 (pretty impressive having missed a race due to extreme cold in Quebec).  Way to go girls!

So for the 2014/2015 season….that’s a wrap!

Rockstar Energy National

Well racing season is winding down and tension is high as the race for National points is coming to a close.chicopee01 With only two more races to go, the pressure was on at the Rockstar Energy National Snowcross Championship in Kitchener this past weekend.

Zoe brought out some of her best racing on Saturday with a 1St overall in Stock 1.  She showed just how far she has come this season, keeping tight in a nearly 180’ corner which saw many kids colliding or bailing.  Sunday was met with lots of determination to keep a winning streak but unfortunately Zoe was unable to hold on in the icy track conditions and put her sled sideways.  Not to be discouraged, she quickly jumped up, tipped her own sled back over, hopped on and continued racing making up many lost spots.  Mom and Dad couldn’t have been more proud of her than that moment.  In the end she secured a 6th place finish in Stock 1 on Sunday.

Dakota showed up at Chicopee with her game face as well.  Every heat and final saw her in the top four and on Sunday with the sun shining and warmer temperatures she shed her jacket and got down to business earning a 2nd place finish in the Stock 2 final.  When handed her trophy at the awards ceremony she fist pumped while chanting “girl power”.

Brooklyn had one of her more challenging weekends in Chicopee.  #500 had consistent 4th place finishes in Novice girls with smooth rides.  Novice 250 class was far more rough for her this weekend with conflict between rider and sled.  In heat 1 in an attempt to make a pass on a jump she unfortunately flew over her handle bars on the landing.  In no time she was back on her sled, tether cord re-attached and off again earning a 3rd place finish.  Perhaps still a little shaken from her bail off, the second heat again saw her in the snow only this time she was unable to get it rolling fast enough finishing 6th.  By the 2nd heat on Sunday with nothing to lose Brooklyn approached the race with a whole new mindset that paid off with a 2nd place finish earning her 3rd overall.

Northern Race Weekends

Well, it has been a busy couple of weekends full of travel for the KSR team, but well worth the drive.

KSR welcomed the month of March in Sudbury, Ontario competing in the Sudbury National Snowcross Championship.  The girls had an exciting weekend on the wide spread track, while Dad had a busy weekend keeping up with repairs of the machines, and tweaking the 120’s

Zoe has really taken to the throttle and was a little too quick in the Stock 1, requiring some tweaking to slow her sled down a little.  Let me tell you- she was not impressed with the throttle blocks and was vocal in her complaints that her sled is “too slow”.  Wow, she has come a long way from cruising at the back of the pack in the first few races.

Dakota had successful heats on Saturday with a 5th and 3rd, but when it came time for the final her sled would not cooperate and stalled first lap.  Dad had a busy evening but managed to have the sled tip top shape for Sunday.  Dakota made up for Saturday’s results with a 2nd and 3rd in the heats and a competitive final securing a 2nd place finish.

Brooklyn is really becoming comfortable on her freestyle in the Novice Girls and Novice A class and is starting to test the limits.  Her favorite remains the Novice 250 class where she has really got a taste for challenging the boys.  She secured 3rd place overall both Saturday and Sunday in the class.

The weekend of March 7th and 8th had the team loading up and getting comfy for the long trek to Timmins, Ontario to compete in the Eclipse Financial Snowcross Pro Challenge.  With the sun shining and warmer temperatures the KSR team really delivered.

With Zoe’s recent 1st in Sudbury she has really gotten a taste for success.  On Saturday she secured a 1st in moto 1 and a 5th in moto 2 with and overall result of 3rd place.  Her success didn’t end there.  Sunday she eagerly arrived at the start line for moto 1 and even after being stuck on the line at the start she was able to move her way up the pack and achieve a 4th place finish.  The second moto brought with it another rocky start with a tip over heading into corner one.  Not to be deterred, Zoe jumped back on and gave her all and was able to finish in 2nd place.  Much to Zoe’s delight, she received a large trophy for a 2nd overall in stock 1

Dakota met some challenges on the line on Saturday.   Poor starts had her working overtime to make her way up a competitive pack for 5th and 4th place finishes in the heats and a 6th in the final.  After some tweaking and a change of gearing Saturday night, she was ready to rock on Sunday – and rock it she did.  Heat 1 she finished 3rd, heat 2 she brought in a 2nd and in the final she finished an impressive 2nd.  Sunday also marked the completion of two full weekends of staying on the sled with no bail offs (which mom celebrated and was super relieved about).

Brooklyn was not to be outdone by her sisters in Timmins.  She had a real competitive edge this weekend on her 250 which made it a difficult hit for her to blow her rear suspension while in second place on Saturday.  She was however, still able to pull off a 4th overall.  Sunday she was back in the game and achieved her highest finish this season with a 1st in heat two and an overall 2nd in the Novice 250.

The KSR team now has three weeks to rejuvenate and prepare for the next race in Kitchener, Ontario where the girls hope to keep up their recent success on the track.

Back To Back Race Weekends!

KSR has had a cold but successful couple of weekends out on the race track.  February 7 & 8th had the girls performing in their hometown of Lindsay, Ontario in the Amsoil Kawartha Cup.  Cheered on by family and friends, the girls produced some of their best finishes thus far.

photo 2photo 1
For the first time this season Zoe placed 1st in her second heat of Stock 1 on Sunday qualifying for the final, where she drove away with a fifth place finish and much to her delight a trophy!

photo 2 (1)
Not to be outdone by her younger sister, Dakota had a couple first place heats in Stock 2, bringing home two awards signifying her fourth and fifth place finishes in the finals Saturday and Sunday respectively.  For the first time ever Dakota rode a borrowed Briggs sled thanks to Country Corners and got a taste of the Briggs class.

photo 3 (2)
Brooklyn found her competitive groove, bumping sleds with the boys in Novice 250 with 3rd and 4th place finishes.   In Novice girls she was able to produce 4th and 5th place finishes and finished 7th and 8th in Novice A.

Nothing says be my Valentine more than some friendly Snowcross competition.  February 14th and 15th had the girls racing the Royal Distributing Cup in Barrie, Ontario.    With frigid temperatures and high winds the girls were given the option to pass on racing.  The decision was made in seconds flat…race on!

Zoe had a couple rough starts but was still able to produce 6th and 7th place overall finishes in Stock 1. Dakota had a hard time staying on her sled but even from the back of the pack she was able to pull up and finish with 6th and 5th overall in the stock 2 category, dancing at the finish line when she realized she’d be bringing home a trophy.

Brooklyn pulled her best Novice 250 finish in Barrie with a 2nd in Sunday’s heat #1.  Overall 4th and 3rd in Novice 250 for Saturday and Sunday respectively.  #500 finished 4th overall in the Novice girls category both days and 7th and 8th in Novice A.

Rouyn Noranda, Quebec

It was a frigid start to the weekend with temperatures of -32 + windchill making it nearly impossible to get the sleds fired up. Despite extreme temperatures, Brooklyn and Dakota fought the numbness and completed all their registered races with top 6 results.  Sunday brought much more tolerable conditions in the morning that had all three of the girls eager to race.  Brooklyn finished 4th in Novice A, 3rd in Novice 250 and 3rd in Novice girls.  Dakota is going to need to invest in some duct tape to keep her bottom on the sled after getting the whole shot and leading first lap she found her self bouncing off on some impressive whoops in the corner.  Despite trailing from behind she still managed to get back on and finish with an impressive 8th place.  Zoe gained some much need seat time to foster some confidence and finished 9th place

Season Opener 2014-2015

photo 2      It has been a long summer and the sisters have been looking forward to getting back on their sleds and racing again.  The long drive to get to Searchmont this past Thursday, due to the snowstorm in Central Ontario,  gave the KSR team time to think and discuss race strategies. The Race weekend provided some much needed seat-time, testing and opportunity to shake the summer rust off with practice on Friday and two full days of racing Saturday and Sunday.
